Dive and Boat Policies

Diving Diving with ORA members: In addition to following all charter boat and diver operator requirements for any diver type (including just coming to take pictures or observing our process), divers in the water for scientific or commercial goals must have a recent (<10 year) dive physical, >50 logged dives, and a reputable agency advanced recreational diving certification, or receive special authorization from the ORA diving safety officer (DSO). Additionally, scientific divers must provide a letter of reciprocity from an American Academy of Underwater Science (AAUS) accredited member or complete an interview and safety/skills checkout dive with the ORA DSO. All ORA dives require a dive plan approved by the DSO and a dive log (post operations). Divers conducting dives without the DSO must send a message to the DSO approximately before they get into the water and after they get out.
Boating Beyond following all charter boat and operator requirements, ORA-sanctioned projects require passengers to have U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) and all boats adhere to USCG minimum recreational vessel requirements. All vessel-based work associated with ORA requires a float plan approved by the ORA CEO. Extenuating circumstances beyond these regulations may be reviewed by ORA’s CEO for special approval.
