Julianne Kalksma earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at The College of New Jersey before eventually pursuing graduate studies in ocean engineering with a focus on coastal processes at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa. Having developed a fascination with the ocean at a young age, she knew she wanted to play a part in protecting it one day. While at school, she was fortunate to take part in volunteer opportunities, talking about the coast and ocean with groups ranging from K12 to the public. She quickly became very interested in science communication and marine science outreach, eager to find ways to combine my love for creative fields with ocean conservation and restoration efforts. Leveraging her background, her goal is to engage with the community and help create fun, approachable educational content that inspires others to want to care for the ocean.
